The Myth of the "Guaranteed Seat" and Backdoor Entries

As the NEET UG results are declared and the anxiety of securing a medical seat sets in, a massive shadow industry of fraudulent agents comes to life. Every year, countless parents and students are approached with incredibly lucrative offers: "We guarantee you an MBBS allotment," or "I have direct contacts with the counselling body and the chairperson of the college."

It is crucial to understand that these claims are entirely false. There is no backdoor entry into any recognized medical college in India.

Every single MBBS seat—whether it is a Government Quota, Management Quota, or NRI Quota seat—is allotted strictly through centralized, transparent online counselling. For the 15% All India Quota and Deemed Universities, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) software processes the allotments based entirely on merit and the choices you fill. State authorities govern the rest. The MCC has repeatedly issued strict warnings that they do not allot seats on a "nomination basis," and any individual claiming to have influence over this automated software is misleading you.

The NRI Quota Reality: Do You Need to Pay "Extra"?

One of the most common scams targeting wealthy domestic and international parents revolves around the NRI quota, particularly in highly sought-after government colleges in states like Haryana or Rajasthan.

Many parents have come to our Pune office frustrated, claiming that agents demanded massive "under-the-table" payments or agent commissions to secure an NRI seat in a government college. This is a complete scam.

Here is the reality of the NRI quota:

• Fixed, Transparent Fees: The fee structure for NRI seats is officially standardized by the state government (for example, the flat $125,000 USD fee in Haryana government colleges).

• Direct Payments: You never pay an agent or a middleman. All tuition fees are paid directly to the counselling authority or the allotted college's official bank account via an NRE/Foreign account.

• Merit-Based Allotment: Even within the NRI category, seats are allotted based on your NEET merit rank among the applying NRI candidates, not by who pays the highest illegal premium.

If someone is demanding extra payments beyond the official, published tuition fee, walk away immediately.

Fake Allotment Letters: The Ultimate Trap

To make their scams appear legitimate, fraudsters often generate fake provisional allotment letters bearing forged signatures of MCC or National Medical Commission (NMC) officials. Do not trust a PDF forwarded to you on WhatsApp.

• The MCC or NMC will never issue an allotment letter directly to a candidate via email or post.

• If you genuinely secure a seat, you must log into your own dashboard on the official mcc.nic.in portal using your confidential password to download the Provisional Allotment Letter yourself.

• The MCC explicitly advises students to never share their registration passwords with anyone, including agents who claim they will handle the process for you.

Protect Your Future

In my 19 years of navigating post-graduate and under-graduate medical admissions, the saddest cases are those where brilliant students lose a year because their parents trusted a tout instead of the system.

Your NEET scorecard is your only currency. Take control of your own application, rely only on official portals like mcc.nic.in or official state websites, and perform all registration activities yourself or under the guidance of a verified, ethical professional who strictly adheres to the established rules.

If you suspect you are being targeted by a fraudulent agent, do not hesitate to report the suspicious activity directly to the MCC or lodge an FIR with your local Cyber Crime Cell.
